Report: Rangers won't go more than three years on Josh Hamilton

The Rangers won't offer free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton more than a three-year contract, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

A three-year deal isn't likely to get it done, but it's probably enough to save face with die-hard Rangers fans who love Hamilton, in that the Rangers could say, "Hey, we tried to keep him."

Basically, the Rangers don't seem too interested in retaining him, as CBSSports.com senior writers Jon Heyman and Danny Knobler have previously reported. So by now, the writing should be on the wall: Josh Hamilton's time as a Texas Ranger is almost certainly done.

Hamilton, 31, hit .285/.354/.577 with 43 homers, 128 RBI and 103 runs last season for the Rangers.
