Video: New Zealand baseball team's pregame haka

By C. Trent Rosecrans | Blogger

The haka is a traditional dance performed by the Maori people of New Zealand. The country's rugby team, the All Blacks, has done the dance before matches for more than 100 years. Well, the New Zealand's baseball team, the Diamondblacks, performed the dance before Thursday's World Baseball Classic opener against Chinese Taipei.

Unfortunately for New Zealand, it didn't lead to success on the field. The team lost 10-0 after the game was called in seven innings in the qualifier in Taiwan.

In the other game played in Taiwan, Johnny Damon's Thailand team lost 8-2 to the Philippines. Damon, the team's DH, was 1-for-3 with a walk.

New Zealand plays Thailand on Friday in an elimination game.
