Phillies have talked to Rockies about Dexter Fowler

Even though Michael Bourn's still on the open market, teams with a need in center field are looking elsewhere -- specifically to Colorado's Dexter Fowler.

While the Reds have been rumored as a fit for Fowler's services, Cincinnati general manager Walt Jocketty said Monday that his team hasn't had any contact with the Rockies. One team that has, however, is Philadelphia, according to CBSSports.com senior writer Danny Knobler.

The Phillies, who have already lost out on Angel Pagan and B.J. Upton, may prefer the 26-year-old Fowler to Bourn specifically because of the price tag. Fowler has two more seasons of arbitration remaining after making $2.35 million last season.

Fowler hit .300/.389/.474 for the Rockies with 13 home runs, 11 triples and 12 stolen bases, his best season in the big leagues. There is concern by some of his home-road splits. In 2012, he hit .332/.431/.553 at Coors Field and .262/.339/.381 away. A total of 10 of his 13 home runs came at home, as did seven of his 11 triples.

Although one national writer floated a trade idea of Fowler for Cincinnati's Homer Bailey on Sunday, Jocketty said the Rockies have never mentioned Bailey to him and he doesn't want to trade starting pitching.

"We really haven't talked to either club (including the A's for Coco Crisp), if that's any indication," Jocketty told MLB.com's Mark Sheldon. "I'm not sure Colorado is moving Fowler."

Also in need of a center fielder is the Mariners and maybe the Cubs or Brewers. Bourn is the top free agent available, but Shane Victorino is also available.
