Red Sox listening to offers for Jacoby Ellsbury

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Once news of the Red Sox's signing of Shane Victorino broke, the discussion centered on Victorino playing right field and batting second in the order, behind center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury. That, however, might change.

According to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are getting trade offers for Ellsbury and are listening "on anything." They need starting pitching in return and if Ellsbury is dealt, Victorino would play center while a right fielder like Cody Ross could be signed.

Heyman also reports the Red Sox would consider prospects in return for Ellsbury.

Ellsbury, 29, is under team control for one more season before hitting free agency for the first time.

Last season, Ellsbury was able to play in only 74 games, as a separated shoulder caused him to miss a large chunk of the season. He hit .271/.313/.370 with four homers, 26 RBI, 43 runs and 14 stolen bases. In 2011, Ellsbury finished second in AL MVP voting when he hit .321/.376/.552 with 32 homers, 105 RBI, 119 runs, 46 doubles, five triples and 39 stolen bases.
