NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- On the heels of Randy Choate signing with the Cardinals, another left-handed reliever is off the market. The Angels have signed free-agent lefty Sean Burnett to a two-year, $8 million deal, reports Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.

Burnett, 30, had a 2.38 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 57 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings last season for the Nationals. He stranded 17 of the 29 runners he inherited. Durability is a plus with Burnett. He has appeared in at least 69 games in each of his last four seasons and averaged 68 appearances per season since becoming a full-timer.

With the Angels, Burnett will join Scott Downs as late-inning left-handers to set up for eighth-inning guy Ernesto Frieri and closer Ryan Madson.

News of the signing was first reported by Fox Sports.
