The Dodgers and Zack Greinke have agreed to a six-year, $147-million contract, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman confirms. Heyman reports that all that remains is for Greinke to pass his physical, which means the deal won't be official until Monday. Heyman also reports that Greinke's contract will not contain a no-trade provision.

Once finalized, this will be the second-largest contract ever given to a pitcher, trailing only CC Sabathia's $161-million deal with the Yankees.

Greinke, 29, is coming off a season in which he posted a 3.48 ERA in 212 1/3 innings for the Brewers and Dodgers . Over that span, he logged 200 strikeouts against 54 walks, all unintentional. For his career, the 2009 AL Cy Young winner has a 3.77 ERA across parts of nine major-league seasons. His career K/BB ratio of 3.51 ranks ninth among active pitchers.

Greinke will stabilize a rotation that lacked upside behind ace Clayton Kershaw. He'll slot in as the No. 2 man behind Kershaw and ahead of the chronically inconsistent Josh Beckett.

Worth remembering: The Dodgers already have $210.68 million in player payroll committed for 2013. The upshot is that the Greinke signing will ensure that the 2013 Dodgers will have the largest payroll in MLB history, barring any significant shedding of salary between now and opening day.
