Report: MLB gathering behavioral profiles to help players in need

By Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer

In light of the tragic events that transpired last weekend with Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, Major League Baseball has taken to gathering information for behavioral profiles -- using FBI analysis -- that might enable teams to better identify players in need of assistance, reports Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com.

Mortensen notes that 80 former MLB players have committed suicide, 54 by self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

The most recent examples of suicide among former MLB players were Hideki Irabu and Mike Flanagan in 2011.
