The 28-year-old is 50-54 with a 4.36 ERA in parts of seven seasons with the Mets but missed most of 2012 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. Pelfrey reportedly is throwing well and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2013 season.
Minnesota's focus this offseason has been on starting pitching. They have traded for Vance Worley and signed Kevin Correia, and acquired prospect Alex Meyer from the Nationals in exchange for Denard Span.
Pelfrey started 2012 strong, earning no-decisions in all three starts, but he had just a 2.29 ERA in 19 2/3 innings. He won at least 10 games each season from 2008 to 2010, including a 15-9 record with a 3.66 ERA in 2010. In 2011 he was 7-13 with a 4.74 ERA.
