Left-handed starting pitcher Francisco Liriano has agreed to a two-year, $12.75 million contract with the Pirates,'s Jon Heyman reports. The contract will be finalized once Liriano passes a physical.

The 29-year-old Liriano is coming off a season in which he posted a 5.34 ERA in a combined 156 2/3 innings for the Twins and White Sox. Liriano seemed to right himself in 2012 after a midseason exile to the Minnesota bullpen. After the trade to Chicago, control problems led to a 5.40 ERA with the contending White Sox. For his career, Liriano has a 4.40 ERA across parts of seven major-league seasons.

Liriano figures to slot in the Pittsburgh rotation behind A.J. Burnett, Wandy Rodriguez and James McDonald.

The news that a deal was in place was first reported by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
