Eye on Photos: The life and times of Earl Weaver

As you have no doubt heard by now, the great Earl Weaver has passed away at the age of 82. So let's celebrate his life and career with some images of one of the greatest managers ever to kick dirt on an ump's shoes (all photos courtesy of Getty Images) ...


Weaver as a player never made the majors, but the St. Louis native was for a time an infielder in the Cardinals' system:

Earl had been arguing so long, he was even doing it in black and white:

Weaver was ejected 94 times in his career. On three occasions, he was tossed from both games of a doubleheader:

What's not known is how many times Weaver attempted to eject an ump:

Weaver and fellow Hall of Famer Jim Palmer clashed often during their years together, but there's no disputing their brilliance together:

After being elected to the Hall of Fame in 1996, Weaver got tossed one last time during a pregame celebration at Camden Yards:
