Just because: Ty Cobb goes in high and hard

Ty Cobb, besides being one of the best ballplayers in the history of ballplayers, was famously competitive to the point of affliction. So consider the semi-famous image that follows to be highly representative of the way that Cobb played the game ...

Four observations on what we see unfolding above: That's high, that's hard, that hurts, that's taekwondo. And while we don't have the angle to say so definitively, there's a non-zero chance that Cobb just spiked this poor chump in the rascal basket. Perish the thought.

In any event, this Baseball-Fever.com thread says that the photograph in question was taken at Detroit's Navin Field in 1912 or 1913.

Most of all, know this: That nameless, long-dead catcher is still feeling it.
