The Rays have re-signed free-agent DH Luke Scott to a one-year contract worth $2.75 million, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman confirms. Heyman also adds that Scott's deal includes $750,000 in performance bonuses.
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times notes that earlier this offseason the Rays paid $1 million to buy out their previous $6-million club option on Scott for 2013. So in essence, they've retained Scott's services at a potential discount of $2.25-million.
The 34-year-old Scott is coming off a season in which he batted .229/.285/.439 with 14 home runs in 96 games. He did, however, put up a strong .820 OPS against the opposite side. So long as Scott is strictly platooned, he can still be useful.
For his career, Scott owns a slash line of .260/.341/.487 with 126 homers.
