The Indians are going to have a great defensive outfield

We knew that the Michael Bourn signing improved Cleveland's outfield defense, but now comes reason to believe it's really going to be a quality unit. Regard:

This, of course, means that Nick Swisher is going to be installed as the regular first baseman. That also means that, if manager Terry Francona is so inclined, he could cobble together a pretty solid DH platoon, what with Mark Reynolds and Jason Giambi on the roster.

The more interesting upshot, however, is that the Indians figure to have a veritable "death to flying things" type of outfield in 2013.

Michael Bourn is one of the best defensive center fielders around, Drew Stubbs would be the plus-fielding choice in center on almost any roster than didn't aleady include Bourn, and Michael Brantley last season spent more than 1,200 innings in center. For those counting, that's three center fielders -- two of them elite -- in one outfield. For the opposition, that means not many balls are likely to find their way to the grass.

The other factor worth noting is that the Cleveland pitching staff in 2012 had the fifth-highest fly-ball percentage of any AL team. That won't change much with the additions of Brett Myers and Daisuke Matsuzaka to the rotation.

The current Indians model is suddenly a very interesting team.
