The Pirates finished the 2012 season with their best record since 1997, a performance that has earned manager Clint Hurdle a new contract.

Hurdle, 55, has been with the Pirates since 2011, during which time they've gone 151-173. They went 79-83 last year and appear poised this season to finish with the franchise's first winning record since 1992.
Before joining Pittsburgh, Hurdle managed the Rockies for parts of eight seasons. He led them to the 2007 NL pennant and is 534-625 in his managerial career.
