Indians sell out opening day in six minutes

After the signings of free agents Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn -- not to mention hiring manager Terry Francona and trading for touted starting pitcher Trevor Bauer -- it's fair to say Indians fans should be excited for the 2013 season. And if ticket sales for the Indians' home opener are any indication, Tribe fans are beyond excited.

The Indians sold out tickets to the home opener in a mere six minutes, according to the team's official Twitter feed.

Now, every team finds it rather easy to fill the house on opening day, and there's often a dip before the second game of the season in the smaller markets. Still, six minutes is awfully fast. Progressive Field seats more than 43,000. There's always a block of season tickets and corporate tickets, but the majority are sold to the general public and those went in six mintues.

Last season, the Indians averaged only 19,797 tickets sold per game. Only the Rays had worse attendance, and their issue is location and stadium. Cleveland has no such problem, as we've seen in the past. Remember, the Indians sold out 455 straight games, from June 12, 1995-April 4, 2001. Recently, they've just had a poor product. That should change this season, and with it, there's certainly reason to believe the fans will return.
