“We are very excited about having Jose,” said Boras to Frisaro. “He has the potential to be a future ace.”
Fernandez, 20, signed for $2 million as the 14th overall pick in the 2011 draft. He has emerged as one of baseball's very best prospects -- Baseball America recently ranked him as the game's fifth-best prospect -- after pitching to a 1.75 ERA with 158 strikeouts and only 35 walks in 134 Single-A innings last year.
Fernandez, who is in big league camp for the first time, has had a pretty eventful spring. First he admitted he didn't know who manager Mike Redmond was, then he hit franchise corner Giancarlo Stanton in the head with a pitch during a simulated game.
