As noted earlier here on Eye On Baseball, Cuba whipped China 12-0 in World Baseball Classic action early Monday morning. Early in the game, though, Chinese baserunner Fujia Chu provided quite the embarrassing blunder on the basepaths.
After stealing second base, he mistook a dropped ball as a foul ball and started to head back to first base. So after stealing second, he was caught in a rundown and tagged out between first and second.
Obviously, China was overmatched, but Chu would have represented the tying run in scoring position early in the game. Also, considering the manner in which the play went down, he's surely been sufficiently chagrined.
