It goes without saying the late, impossibly great Stan Musial is and always will be a civic treasure in St. Louis. Fitting, then, that a movement is afoot to undertake a 104-foot mural of "Stan the Man" to be placed on a prominent St. Louis building.
Over at Rally Saint Louis, where you can vote to have the mural become a reality, they note the piece of civic art would feature Musial's "signing a (sic) autograph for a young fan, or Stan at bat."
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the artist in question, "Indy," would paint the mural on tin plates, which would then be secured in place on the chosen structure. Doing so would prevent a replay of a 1977 St. Louis mural dedicated to Charles Lindbergh, which was applied directly to the edifice and thus was no more once the Lion Gas building was demolished four years later.
"In this age of mediocrity, we need something like this," said the artist.
Indeed we do.
