Nationals acquire Ian Krol from A's to complete Mike Morse trade

By Mike Axisa | Baseball Writer

The Nationals have acquired minor-league left-hander Ian Krol from the Athletics as the player to be named later in the Mike Morse trade, the team announced. Here's a recap of the now final three-team trade:

  • To Mariners: Morse (from Nationals)
  • To Athletics: John Jaso (from Mariners)
  • To Nationals: Krol and minor-league RHPs Blake Treinen and A.J. Cole (all from A's)

Krol, 21, was Oakland's seventh-round pick in the 2009 draft and their organizational pitcher of the year in 2010. They signed him for $925,000, and he's since pitched to a 3.75 ERA in 47 starts and 17 relief appearances during his minor-league career. Krol went 2-9 with a 5.20 ERA in 15 starts and 14 relief appearances between High-A and Double-A last summer. MLB.com ranked the southpaw as the 14th-best prospect in the A's sytem recently.

Krol might be most famous -- or infamous, really -- for being suspended for more than two months in 2011 after tweeting a homophobic slur.
