World Baseball Classic detractors, take note: Twins right-hander Sam Deduno, who sparkled in the Dominican Republic's championship-game win over Puerto Rico, is sidelined with a groin injury. La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the groin pull indeed occurred during Wednesday's title game.

Deduno, who had been in contention for the Twins' fifth-starter job, will be sidelined for the next few days, at least, and, as Neal notes, it's possible he won't see game action again during spring training.

The 29-year-old has pitched to a 4.36 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 1.12 K/BB ratio across 84 2/3 major-league innings, 79 of which have been as a starter. Deduno's injury likely gives Cole De Vries the inside track to the fifth spot in the Minnesota rotation.
