Opening day in Minnesota will be ... cold

By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer

Monday's opening day in Minnesota might be the coldest opening day on record in Minnesota. (AP)

Among countless opening day delights is the Tigers-Twins tilt at Target Field in Minnesota. However, since it's early April and since Punxsutawney Phil is a stupid liar who poops his pants, it's going to be quite cold way up yonder in Minnesota.

Here, courtesy of CBS Minnesota, is the game-time forecast for Monday's 3:10 CT start time ...

On this day in this northern locale, the purchase of a ticket should entitle you to a flask of whiskey, the rudiments of a campfire and the pelt of a hairy enemy. Wind chill figures to drive the temp down to 20 or so, which, sources confirm, is unpleasant and stuff. As the AP game preview notes, it's in fact going to be a cold snap of historic proportions ...

If the forecast holds true, it has the potential to be the coldest opening day on record in Minnesota, dating to 1961. The coldest was 33 degrees in 1963.

Consider spring to be not unlike an injured Yankee whose time frame and future capabilties are unclear. Baseball, though, shall soldier on.
