Reds left fielder Ryan Ludwick dislocated his right shoulder early in Monday's opener against the Angels. Tuesday, the Reds announced in a press release that Ludwick will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair cartilage in the shoulder, and he will obviously be placed on the 15-day disabled list as a result.

The Reds will announce a corresponding roster move Wednesday.

No further information, such as a timetable for Ludwick's recovery, was given.

Ludwick, 34, hit .275/.346/.531 with 26 homers and 80 RBI in 125 games for the Reds last season. He was then brought back this past offseason on a two-year deal. He drew two walks before having to leave the game Monday.

Chris Heisey came on to replace Ludwick and went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts, leaving four men on base. Xavier Paul would be another option in left field with Ludwick on the shelf, presuming the Reds don't go to a highly touted prospect like Billy Hamilton -- which I doubt they'd do immediately.
