Let's hand out some grades for teams and players with an eye on those early-week series that have already been concluded ...
|A||Specifically, Yu Darvish gets the A. Sure, it was the Astros across the way, but coming within one out of a perfecto in your first start of the season is "A" work regardless of context.|
|B+||White Sox pitching. Hitter's park, potentially solid opposing lineup -- no problem. All three starters turned in a quality start, and the bullpen has yet to allow a run.|
|C||If you're the 2013 Astros, then there's no shame in a C. It's the pitching staff that gets a C for posting a three-game ERA of 4.33 against the vastly superior Rangers. If it were all about the rotation, then they'd get a healthy B+, as Houston starters are responsible for just 4 of the team's 13 runs allowed.|
|D||We're singling out the Pirates' offense for this low mark. Over the course of the three-game home set with the Cubs, the Bucs hit a combined .144/.222/.189. When your OPS would make a below-average SLG, you're not hitting. The oddity is that they actually put up better offensive numbers than the Cubs did.|
|F||We knew the Marlins were going to be bad, and there's no shame in losing to the Nats on the road. But they're still the only winless team in baseball. How long they slog on as such is anyone's guess. They're also on pace to score 54 runs this season! Here's something we're looking forward to: attendance figures fromt the Marlins' second home game of the year.|
