Thursday night, my boy Dayn Perry passed along the news that Vladimir Guerrero will play this season for the Long Island Ducks, an independant league team -- the same league as the Sugar Land Skeeters, for which Roger Clemens pitched last season. Friday, we learn Dontrelle Willis has also signed on to play for the Ducks, confirms Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

Willis is in a much different situation than Guerrero. The D-Train is only 31 and should still be in his prime. Unfortunately, he hasn't been a worthwhile pitcher since all the way back in 2006, one year after he finished second in NL Cy Young voting.

In his big-league career, Willis went 72-69 with a 4.17 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 896 strikeouts in 1,221 2/3 innings. From 2007-11 (he didn't pitch in the majors last season), however, Willis was 14-30 with a 5.65 ERA and 1.70 WHIP.

News of Willis signing with the Ducks was first reported by ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.
