The Yankees' injury woes continue. This time shortstop Eduardo Nunez -- well, backup shortstop Eduardo Nunez -- was forced to leave Friday's game against Detroit after being hit with a Doug Fister fastball.

Initial reports from reporters in Comerica Park say Nunez has bruised a right bicep and X-rays were negative.

The Fister pitch came up and in on Nunez, who started to turn before trying to get out of the way. The pitch actually got the back part of Nunez's stance -- that is, his left arm is closest to the pitcher and this pitch hit the right side of Nunez's body.

The pitch appeared to hit Nunez in the upper chest area near Nunez's armpit and Nunez's right bicep area.

After getting plunked, Nunez lied in the batter's box in obvious pain for a few minutes and had to be helped off the field.

Should Nunez hit the disabled list, he'd join Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez among Yankees position players.

Laynce Nix took over at shortstop for Nunez.
