White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham will miss the next six to eight weeks after an MRI revealed a fractured hamate bone in his left wrist, reports CBS Chicago. He'll undergo surgery within the next few days. Beckham sustained the injury Tuesday against the Nationals.

The 26-year-old Beckham hasn't hit much in his major-league career -- .246/.312/.381 across parts of five seasons -- but he's regarded as a plus defender at second. This season, Beckham is hitting a fairly empty .316 thus far (one walk, no extra-base hits).

For the time being, Jeff Keppinger, the Sox's regular third baseman, will likely fill in at Beckham's position. Recalling Brent Morel for additional infield depth is also a possibility.
