Everyone knew the Marlins were going to be bad this season, especially on offense. Sure enough, the team has been shut out four times in its first nine games, and the Marlins' 16 total runs are by far the fewest in baseball.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the Marlins will be without franchise cornerstone/meal ticket Giancarlo Stanton for at least Friday's game due to a sore left shoulder. The team announced he was a late scratch from the lineup. Here's the batting order they will trot out in the series opener against the Phillies:

  1. LF Juan Pierre
  2. 2B Donovan Solano
  3. 3B Placido Polanco
  4. CF Justin Ruggiano
  5. 1B Greg Dobbs
  6. RF Austin Kearns
  7. C Rob Brantly
  8. SS Adeiny Hechavarria
  9. SP Ricky Nolasco

That is as bad a lineup as I've seen in quite some time. Horrible.

Stanton, 22, is off to a 5-for-30 (.167) start to the season. As Corey Seidman of CSNPhilly.com points out, Stanton is on pace to the see the lowest percentage of strikes (30.2 percent) since the data started being recorded in 2002. Given the lineup around him, that is no surprise.

No word on how long the sore shoulder will keep Stanton on the bench, but it doesn't appear to be a long-term concern at the moment.
