UPDATE: Reyes has a left ankle sprain, the team announced. He is heading for more tests, including an MRI.

Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes was carted off the field in Kansas City following an awkward slide into second base on a stolen base attempt. Here is the play in question:

Reyes was in a lot of pain following the play and remained on the ground for several minutes. The trainers stabilized his foot/ankle before taking him off.

The 29-year-old Reyes has a history of hamstring problems, but this was obviously a fluke injury. Toronto acquired him from the Marlins as part of their 12-player blockbuster this offseason.
