The Cubs have placed closer Kyuji Fujikawa on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain, tweets Meghan Montemurro of the Northwest Herald. Montemurro also notes that, in Fujikawa's absence, Cubs manager Dale Sveum will likely play matchups to protect ninth-inning leads, leaning primarily on right-hander Shawn Camp and lefty James Russell.
The disabling of Fujikawa certainly helps explain his rough outing on Friday. The 32-year-old "rookie" import has a 12.46 ERA in five appearances this season. Before signing with the Cubs, Fujikawa was dominant as a relief ace in Japan's Central League: 1.36 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 5.43 K/BB ratio across parts of six seasons.
