Scary news from Miami: Marlins right fielder Austin Kearns was hospitalized on Sunday morning with an irregular heartbeat, the club announced.

Kearns was originally slated to start Sunday afternoon's home game against the Phillies but was a late scratch due to the elevated heart rate.

Kearns, 32, is off to a rough on-field start to the 2013 season, too. He's 0-for-10 with three walks (.231 on-base percentage). Justin Ruggiano will get the start in Kearns' absence.

All of that, however, is rather ancillary to Kearns' heart issue. Let's hope it's a temporary issue that is resolved as soon as possible.
