Another game against the Padres, another fallen Dodgers starting pitcher.

This time, lefty Chris Capuano, the replacement for Zack Greinke and his broken collarbone, strained his left calf and had to be pulled from his Tuesday night start in Los Angeles.

Capuano appeared to sustain the injury during the course of a walk to Jesus Guzman to lead off the third inning. He took two practice tosses while surrounded by manager Don Mattingly and trainers and appeared to continue favoring his left calf. Mattingly then lifted Capuano over the left-hander's objections. His night ended with two innings pitched, five earned runs on five hits.

While the entire episode had the whiff of "precautionary move," Capuano's status isn't yet known.

If it winds up being DL-worthy, then the Dodgers will turn to veteran lefty Ted Lilly, who recently agreed to make another minor-league rehab start.
