The Brewers have signed right-handed reliever Francisco Rodriguez to a minor-league contract, the team announced Wednesday. CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports the deal is worth $2 million to $2.5 million. K-Rod will spend some time at the team's spring training complex in Arizona. Milwaukee has 30 days to assign him somewhere.

K-Rod, 31, spent last season with the Brew Crew, pitching to a 4.38 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP and 72 strikeouts in 72 innings. He spent most of the season in a setup capacity, accruing three saves, 32 holds and seven blown saves. He was an elite closer in the past. A four-time All-Star, Rodriguez led the AL in saves three times and holds the major-league record for saves in a season with 62 (2008).

Rodriguez has 294 career saves. So if he can find a way to gather six more, he'll become the 25th major leaguer to hit the 300 mark. Rangers closer Joe Nathan became the 24th last week.

Milwaukee's bullpen has pitched to a 4.65 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP in the early going.
