The Brewers have been beset by injuries so far this year, and now word comes from MLB.com's Adam McCalvy that infielder Taylor Green will undergo season-ending hip surgery. It will be an arthroscopic procedure to correct an impingement.

Green, 26, opened the year on the DL to continue rehabbing a hip injury that occurred in the middle of spring training. He aggravated the injury while diving for a ball in an Extended Spring Training game, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel.

The left-handed hitting utility man is a .207/.266/.243 career hitter in 78 games over the last two seasons with Milwaukee. Green owns a .311/.386/.513 career batting line at the Triple-A level and has experience at the three non-shortstop infield positions.

First baseman Mat Gamel suffered a season-ending knee injury during spring training, and Green was in the mix as a possible replacement. First baseman Corey Hart (knee) and third baseman (Aramis Ramirez) are also on the DL. They're both expected to return in the coming weeks.
