Dodgers infielder Hanley Ramirez took part in a full workout on Friday, even showing power during batting practice, according to's Ken Gurnick and Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. He hopes to return to the lineup in time for his bobblehead day on April 30.

Ramirez, 29, tore ligaments in his thumb diving for a ball during the World Baseball Classic. He needed surgery and although the original timetable called for an eight-week recovery, Hanley vowed to return ahead of schedule. Returning on April 30 would put him at about five-and-a-half weeks.

Ramirez recently shed his cast and is still wearing a split on his thumb, even while working out. He's been throwing for about two weeks and Gurnick says it was obvious he'll need some kind of minor-league rehab assignment given the rust he showed during the workout.

Los Angeles acquired Ramirez from the Dodgers at last year's trade deadline, and he hit .271/.324/.450 with 10 homers in 64 games following the trade. The team's third basemen and shortstops have combined for a .167/.256/.225 batting line so far this year, so Hanley's return will very welcome regardless of which position he plays.
