Athletics left-hander Brett Anderson left Friday's start with a right ankle sprain, the team announced. There was no obvious incident that led to the injury, but it could have happened when he was running down an infield hit by Ryan Roberts.

Anderson, 25, has missed a lot of time with injuries during his young career. He had elbow problems from 2010-12, including Tommy John surgery, in addition to an oblique strain, back spasms and a thumb issue. The team did not release any details on the severity of the sprain.

The Rays tagged Anderson for four runs in the first inning on Friday, and he was removed from the game before the start of the second. He's gone 1-2 with a 4.34 ERA in three starts so far this year.
