The Miami Marlins at Minnesota Twins game scheduled for Monday night has been postponed due to snow. One unrelated takeaway: Marlins rookie pitcher Jose Fernandez has now seen snow for the first time in his life.

"My mom is like, 'Send me pictures,' " Fernandez said, via The Palm Beach Post.

Fernandez is only 20 and defected from Cuba five years ago. He then went to high school in Tampa, Fla. He was drafted out of high school by the Marlins and sent to the Gulf Coast League. He did pitch one time for the Jamestown (NY) Jammers, but because it was the summer he avoided the snow. And then last season he pitched for Class-A Greensboro in the South Atlantic League and High-A Jupiter in the Florida State League.

So while someone having never seen snow may seem a bit odd to a Midwesterner like me, it's not even remotely surprising considering where Fernandez has been in his life.
