The Blue Jays have scratched right-hander Josh Johnson from Friday's start against the Yankees with right-triceps tightness, the team announced. The move is precautionary, and they expect him to make his next start. Left-hander Aaron Laffey will start on Friday.

Johnson, 29, is 0-1 with a 6.86 ERA in his first four starts this season. He came over from the Marlins in this winter's 12-player blockbuster trade, a trade that has yet to provide the desired results: Jose Reyes is out with a long-term ankle injury, and the Jays are in the AL East cellar at 9-14.

Johnson has battled multiple injuries in recent years, most notably Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for most of 2007 and part of 2008. Shoulder inflammation cost him part of 2010 and nearly all of 2011, as well.

The 28-year-old Laffey has allowed eight runs in 10 innings this year, all with the Mets. Toronto claimed him off waivers earlier this week. He went 4-6 with a 4.56 ERA in 16 starts and six relief appearances for the Blue Jays last year.

The Jays are in the Bronx for a four-game series this weekend. New York took the series opener 5-3 on Thursday night.
