White Sox's Gavin Floyd hits DL with flexor strain in elbow

White Sox right-hander Gavin Floyd left Saturday's start against Tampa Bay with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow, the team announced. He walked off the field with the trainer without attempting to test the elbow with any kind of warm-up pitch. And then Sunday morning, the White Sox placed him on the 15-day disabled list.

Floyd, 30, had two elbow-related DL stints last summer, including a flexor muscle strain. The other had to do with inflammation, and he returned from both injuries within 16 days. Obviously, the repeat injury is a big red flag.

Floyd allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings before exiting the game with the injury. He has gone 0-3 with a 4.98 ERA in his first four starts of the season. Left-hander Hector Santiago replaced Floyd and is a candidate to take his rotation spot.
