Athletics starting pitcher Brett Anderson was scheduled to make his next start on Monday night against the Angels, but he has been scratched due to an ankle injury, the team told reporters on Sunday (including John Hickey).
In Anderson's place, the A's will recall Dan Straily.
Anderson, 25, has a long history with injuries. He was only able to make 38 starts during 2010-12. Still, at least this isn't anything relating to his arm, so that's the good news. The A's don't expect Anderson to need a trip to the disabled list, so it should only be a temporary issue. Anderson is 1-4 with a 7.23 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 24 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings this season.
Straily, 24, won his only start earlier this season when he allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out 11 while walking none. For Triple-A Sacramento this season, Straily is 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings.
