Pirates outfielder Starling Marte is off to a torrid .328/.394/.513 start to the season, but forget about his performance at the plate. On Saturday, Marte tried to field a ball in left by taking his glove off his left hand and holding it with his right (throwing) hand:
I'm pretty sure that is not a textbook defensive play. Can't ever remember seeing that happen before. No, definitely not.
That ball went for a Ryan Zimmerman leadoff triple, by the way. He came around to score later in the inning, and the Nationals went on to win the game 5-4.
