The Baltimore Orioles have placed starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez on the disabled list, retroactive to May 4, the club announced Thursday. As a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Alex Burnett was promoted from Triple-A Norfolk.

Gonzalez, a right-hander, is dealing with a right thumb blister.

"It's a callus with a blister underneath, and both of them came off," manager Buck Showalter said, via the Associated Press. "So he's down to some pretty raw skin."

The Orioles still haven't named a starter for Saturday's game -- they had previously pushed Gonzalez's Thursday start back to Saturday in hopes he'd be ready to go -- but Steve Johnson is an option. Johnson went 4-0 with a 2.11 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 38 1/3 innings last season, which included four starts and eight relief appearances. He is on the disabled list with a rib-cage issue but is on a minor-league rehab assignment.

Jake Arrieta could be another option, as he's in Triple-A, though he'd have to go on short rest Saturday.

Gonzalez, 28, is 2-2 with a 4.58 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings this season.
