As right fielder Jayson Werth's hamstring issue lingers, it sounds all but certain that the Nationals will place him on the disabled list before Saturday's game. Each Nationals beat reporter calls it "likely" to happen once Friday's game is concluded.
“Obviously, something's wrong with his hamstring,” said manager Davey Johnson (washingtontimes.com). “Whether any little running or exercise is going to fatigue it and it might pull, that's something I'm going to be very cautious with.”
Reports indicate the DL stint would be retroactive to May 3 and that Werth wouldn't need additional time past the May 18 date that he's eligible to return.
Werth, 33, is hitting .260/.308/.400 with four homers and 10 RBI this season in 107 plate appearances.
The Nationals were also without Bryce Harper on Friday night after he had surgery to remove and ingrown toenail. With the two starters out, Tyler Moore and Roger Bernadina flanked center fielder Denard Span.
