The Pirates have activated lefty starter Francisco Liriano from the diabled list, the team has announced. The 29-year-old veteran has been sidelined since December, when he broke his non-throwing arm -- the result of a bathroom fall. Liriano will start Saturday against the Mets in Citi Field.

Liriano, whose contract was reworked to guarantee him $1 million for 2013 with an incentive-based option for 2014, has a 96 ERA+ across parts of seven major-league seasons. In 2012, Liriano logged a 5.34 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 1.92 K/BB ratio for the Twins and White Sox. Liriano was a 22-year-old All-Star in 2006 and in 2010 finished just outside the top 10 in the AL Cy Young balloting.

Saturday's outing will be his first National League appearance.
