Things have gone pretty poorly for the last-place White Sox so far this season, but left-hander Chris Sale is giving them something to get excited about on Sunday night. The team's ace threw 6 1/3 perfect innings against the Angels before allowing a ground ball single to Mike Trout.

Sale, 24, was in great shape to go the distance, having thrown only 65 pitches in the first six innings. Only one Angel -- shortstop Brendan Harris in the third inning -- saw a three-ball count in those six innings. Ten of the first 18 Angels were retired on three or fewer pitches. Needless to say, the Halos haven't been very patient.

The ChiSox moved Sale into the rotation last season, and he rewarded them by going 17-8 with a 3.05 ERA and 192 strikeouts in 192 innings. That performance earned him his first All-Star Game berth and a sixth-place finish in the AL Cy Young Award voting. Sale pitched to a 2.58 ERA with 10.6 K/9 in 94 1/3 relief innings from 2010-11.

Coincidentally enough, the last White Sox pitcher to throw a perfect game was designated for assignment on Sunday -- Phil Humber made history against the Mariners last April. The Angels were last no-hit by Eric Milton of the Twins in September 1999. They were the victim of a perfect game in July 1994, when Kenny Rogers of the Rangers got them.

Dating back to his preview start, Sale retired 24 consecutive batters and 36 of 37 batters overall before Trout singled.
