White Sox ace Chris Sale flirted with a perfect game against the Angels on Sunday night, retiring the first 19 men he faced before Mike Trout snuck a ground ball single through the infield. What was going through the young southpaw's mind during his pursuit of history?
Going through Sale's mind as the perfect game progressed: "There's no way this is going to happen."— Scott Merkin (@scottmerkin) May 13, 2013
The 24-year-old Sale wound up throwing a one-hitter, allowing zero walks while striking out seven in his first career complete-game shutout. That's not historic, but it is pretty darn awesome.
I'm sure the young lefty will have plenty more opportunities to doubt himself while flirting with perfection in the future.
