The first-place Indians made a couple of notable roster moves in advance of their Monday doubleheader against the Yankees.

First, the Tribe has recalled gifted young right-hander Trevor Bauer. Bauer, whom the Indians acquired from the Diamondbacks this offseason as part of the three-way trade that landed Shin-Soo Choo in Cincinnati, will start the second game of the doubleheader in Cleveland. He'll be the 26th player on the active roster, which, per MLB rules, is permissible in the event of a doubleheader. Since the Indians must go back to 25 players after Monday, Bauer will almost certainly be dispatched back to Triple-A Columbus following his upcoming start.

This season, the 22-year-old former third-overall pick out of UCLA has a 2.70 ERA across two starts for Cleveland. However, Bauer has walked 13 batters -- all unintentional -- in 10 innings of work. In parts of three minor-league seasons, Bauer has pitched to a 2.94 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 2.78 K/BB ratio.

Elsewhere, the Indians have also recalled lefty reliever David Huff (3.38 ERA in 26 2/3 innings for Cleveland last season), and to make room for Huff they've demoted third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall back to Triple-A.

The 24-year-old Chisenhall, who was ranked by Baseball America as the 25th-best prospect in baseball back in 2011, is coming off a 2012 season in which he authored a 107 OPS+ for the Indians, but this season he's scuffled to the tune of .213/.253/.351. The Indians had previously worried about Chisenhall's struggles with left-handed pitching, so presumably that'll be part of his focus in the minors.

While Chisenhall is in the minors, Mark Reynolds will likely see time in the field. Mike Aviles is also an option at third.
