After being sidelined since April 26 with a lacerated hand, Pirates second baseman Neil Walker is back in the fold. On Monday, Pittsburgh activated Walker from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the active roster, the Pirates optioned infielder Jordy Mercer back to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Walker is batting .253/.352/.342 in 23 games this season. For his career, the 27-year-old Walker owns an OPS+ of 111 across parts of five seasons. During Walker's recently completed minor-league rehab assignment he went 5-for-12.

Walker suffered the injury from an accidental spiking by Cardinals shortstop Pete Kozma.
