The Yankees spent the last few weeks putting players on the DL, but now they are finally getting one back. Outfielder Curtis Granderson has been activated off the DL, the team announced.

Granderson, 32, had his right forearm broken by an errant pitch in his very first at-bat of spring training. He went 8 for 20 (.400) with a home run in five minor-league rehab games with the club's Triple-A affiliate before being activated on Tuesday.

From 2011-12, Granderson hit .247/.342/.522 (129 OPS+) with an MLB-best 84 homers. The Yankees have hit the sixth-most homers in baseball this season (47) despite their injuries, but adding a player with 40+ homer potential (over a full season) will help any lineup.

The Yankees have had Granderson working out in left and right field during his rehab, indicating Brett Gardner will remain in center field. He's a superior defender and one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball. Vernon Wells and Ichiro Suzuki are also in the outfield mix.

To make room on the roster, the Yankees have optioned left-hander Vidal Nuno to Triple-A. He threw five shutout innings against the Indians on Monday during a doubleheader spot start.
