When the Phillies (aka a National League team) signed Delmon Young this past offseason, the immediate thought for some (like me) was the comedic potential he had in the outfield. Because while it's possible he can be a useful offensive player -- though not likely, as he had an 89 OPS-plus from 2011-13 entering Saturday -- it's not possible that he can be a competent major-league defensive player.
Many advanced metrics put Young among the worst defenders in baseball, but the eye test is so much more fun. For example, here's what he did with a Jay Bruce single Saturday (thanks to Crashburn Alley, a Phillies blog, for making the GIF):
Oh, Delmon. How I love thee.
