Brewers first baseman Corey Hart has been sidelined since undergoing knee surgery in January. Hart is eligible to come off the 60-day disabled list on May 30, but now the Brewers say that won't happen, contrary to hopes.

MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports that Hart won't be healthy enough to begin what should be a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment until the first or second week of June. That, in turn, means that Hart might not be ready to be activated until late next month.

The 31-year-old Hart is coming off a 2012 season in which he batted .270/.334/.507 with 30 homers and 35 doubles. For his career, he own an OPS+ of 116.

Hart's eventual return will certainly be welcome news, as the Brewers have struggled to get adequate production from first base in his absence.
